Corrections Policy

Last updated: April 2026

We take accuracy seriously. When we make a mistake, we correct it. This page explains how we handle corrections and what readers can expect when an error is found.

How to Report an Error

If you believe an article, calculator, state page, or other content on MortgageMathLab contains an error, please email mortgagemathlab@gmail.com with:

• The URL of the page in question.

• A description of the error and what you believe is correct.

• If possible, a link or citation supporting the correction.

We aim to respond to correction requests within 5 business days.

What Counts as a Correction

We categorize content changes into three buckets:

Typos and minor edits. Spelling, grammar, formatting, broken links. We fix these without formal correction notes.

Updates. Information that was accurate when published but has changed (e.g., new loan limits, annual program updates, updated rate environment). We revise the content and update the "Last updated" date.

Corrections. Factual errors that existed when the content was published. We fix the underlying error and, if the error was material (e.g., wrong dollar amount in an example, incorrect eligibility rule, misstated waiting period), add a brief correction note to the article.

Correction Notes

When we make a material correction, we add a note that:

• Identifies what was wrong.

• Identifies what is correct.

• Notes the date the correction was made.

We do not silently change content that meaningfully affects a reader's understanding. Correction notes preserve trust by showing we acknowledge errors rather than rewriting history.

Retractions

If an article contains so many errors that it cannot be reliably corrected, we may retract it. Retracted articles are removed from the site and from search engines. The URL returns an HTTP 410 (Gone) status. We do not silently redirect retracted content to unrelated pages.

Calculator Bugs

If you discover a bug in one of our calculators (incorrect math, wrong default values, edge case errors), please report it via email. We test our calculators before deploying, but math bugs occasionally slip through. We fix calculator bugs as quickly as we can verify the issue. If the bug materially affected calculations, we may publish a note about the bug.

Outdated Data

Mortgage rates, property tax averages, insurance averages, loan limits, and program details change over time. We update our default values and data periodically. If you see a number that looks significantly out of date, let us know — we may not have caught it.

Reader Disagreement vs. Factual Error

We distinguish between factual errors (something is provably wrong) and reasonable disagreement (different interpretations or opinions). We correct factual errors. We discuss disagreements when they are productive, but we are not obligated to change opinions or recommendations to match every reader's preference.
